SRA were invited to provide a concept scheme for a new dedicated Theatre and Performing Arts Centre for a school in Lincolnshire. The brief requested a new and exciting statement building which would inspire students and show the schools dedication to Performing Arts. It was important that this building provided an advertisement for the school due to its frontal location. Our team worked in close collaboration with each other to produce numerous sketches and ideas, all the while remaining concious of the technical challenges that lay ahead, such as the sheer amount of mechanical plant that would be required in a building of this scale.
As with most of our projects, 2D drawings were first produced before evolving into a detailed 3D model once layouts were finalised. We decided to put our new version of the rendering software into practice and created realistic visualizations of our proposals.
The proposed scheme incorporates large amounts of glazing to fill the building with natural daylight light, along with colourful attractive cladding panels to provide the eye-catching advert. A flat roof has been introduced above the main entrance where mechanical plant equipment can reside, allowing easy access for general maintenance and servicing. Punctured metal cladding has been introduced around the perimeter of this section to obscure the plant machinary, with the school logo incorporated by introducing smaller and more frequent punctures within the paneling.
Although currently a feasibility scheme, the design provides just an insight into the work that our team can undertake and the level of detail and forethought SRA consider, even during the concept stage.
